Land and Minerals Consulting
12th May 2026, 7 PM
The IAEG are pleased to announce that Mark Williams, Principle Mining Geologist at Land & Minerals Consulting Ltd, will be presenting on Tuesday the 12th of May as part of our 2026 Online Lecture series. Mark will be speaking on "Underground Drilling Innovation and Geo-Metallurgical Integration at Barbrook Mine, Barberton". The talk will take place online at 7 PM.
Extending mineralisation below existing underground infrastructure is a key challenge in mature gold operations, particularly in structurally complex and refractory systems such as the Barberton Greenstone Belt. At Barbrook Mine, mineralisation is associated with narrow orebodies and elevated amorphous carbon, resulting in preg-robbing behavior and metallurgical complexity. A 2012 drilling programme was designed to extend mineralisation below the 10 Level haulage and improve geo-metallurgical understanding.
The programme demonstrates that innovative underground drilling, combined with geo-metallurgical analysis, can improve both resource definition and processing outcomes. Integration of these approaches provides a practical pathway to optimise extraction in refractory gold systems.
